Jazz

My interest in jazz began when a local pub started to have a live jazz session every Monday night. There was a resident trio of guitar, bass and drums who had a guest every week, usually a keyboard player or saxophonist.

The problem I had was knowing what not to buy on record. I found that I liked hard bop but found some of it just too challenging for me. Then in December 1985 I saw a televised concert, One Night With Blue Note, that featured the relaunch of the Blue Note label. I made a note of some of the performers and found the sort of jazz that I enjoy.

Most of my jazz collection is on CD and consists of Blue Note recordings from the late 50's and early 60's. At the time Blue Note had an 'in-house' band so plenty of musicians crop up both as leaders and side-men. I'm unable to give a complete discography of the featured players so all CDs listed here are from my collection.
